OY: Was there any occasion that you thought you couldn’t go on when you perform on site?
N: I thought “I screwed up”… when I sung a new song, I forgot the lyrics of my part, during concert, when I thought what should I do, then I passed the mic to audience like “everyone sing together”, but it was new song, no one knew the lyrics, and they were like “what is that person doing?”. But I don’t have intention of keeping saying that, I don’t have impression of saying this too, but, I have my line of thinking. This line, for instance, when I act, because I don’t reach the line I think about, I shouldn’t call myself “actor”. Therefore, the foundation is, when I am asked “what do you work?”, I explain my work as “I am a member of a group called ARASHI.” But when we look at the contents of my work, I perform in concerts, I sing and release CDs, I appear in film and theatre, and I do variety programmes, I do lots of works, right? N: When I act, and appear in work promotion, I am often called “orthodox actor”, “an actor with skills”. But actors are not described like this, right? Just like I haven’t been called “orthodox idol”, not even once.
OY: Because Johnny’s is orthodox idol with no doubt.
N: Yes. Because this is something widely accepted in this world, this became a culture, no one would emphasise Johnny’s idol work as “idol”, because people are fully aware of this. So, actors whom people are fully aware as actors would not be described as this, because this would be disrespectful to them, at least I think so, if an actor is introduced as “you really act well” (this would be disrespectful to the actor).

OY: What’d you do ten years later? Would you still be singing and dancing?
N: I’ll be 45 years old ten years later. I want to sing and dancing that time, ideally. But there is one thing to think about. We have been working many years since debut, and there are kouhais coming out, I want to create an environment for kouhais to work well. OY: Indeed this time, the work is about prosecutors, your new film. When I watch it, I was thinking about the ethical perspective of human. When I conduct research I exclude all ethical perspective in my thinking, after that, I work it out again with ethics back. For instance when I convey on twitter or media, I am careful of what I say. Probably speaking of Ninomiya-san, there are tens of thousand, hundreds of thousand people who trust you without any condition. It is great to work taking this into consideration. Do you skillfully think about this or just think about this naturally?
N: Probably naturally. I have been thinking about this since I was small.

OY: When you act, “the script is better amended this way”, when you are the actor you’d discuss about the story, do you do this?
N: Yes. But I don’t quite think this is good. It’s already my custom. But it isn’t quite a good thing. But it isn’t “if you don’t do this I’ll quit”, rather it’s like “what do you think if it’s like this?”, “there is also such way of thinking”. First I make a first approach, and if others are like “oh, so what’d it be?” then I tell more and more. I raise discussion in ox‐walk tactics.
Recently I have acted a drama about doctor. At that time, though it was not ad-lib, I said my scriptlines changing the words a lot. Originally I am the type who would add in things to make the work better, Koizumi Kotaro-kun who also acted in the drama just said nothing at all. He just smiled all the time and replied “yes, I see, then I’ll do this. Let’s start with this”. Indeed I think actors in this way are great. Their capacity is beyond understanding. One time, I said to Kotaro-kun “really, wouldn’t it be great to act in that way?”, he replied “um. But this is Director’s instruction”. I think he is great. Because I act this role, so what I say is just not necessary. “Because this is what Director says, let’s act this way”, “so let’s act this way”. In fact this works, the role is created in this way. OY: When you perform in Tokyo Dome, indeed the ratio of stage and audience number is great.
N: Indeed this is a very special occasion. Recently we perform in Dome facing 50,000 audience, normally people won’t face 50,000 people, right? In the concert, on the stage, if I am like this (holding knees, look like tired), 50,000 audience would say “try your best” to me. Normally this won’t happen, right? If I am in a town and I look like tired, all the residents in the town say “try your best” to me, this definitely won’t happen. There are a lot of extraordinary things happen during concerts.
Therefore, when we say “the concert ended”, “thank you”, and we exited from stage, the aura of audience side just diverse immediately. OY: In what timing do Ninomiya-san enter your role? For instance, do you enter the role along the travelling to the filming site, or do you enter the role when you reach the site?
N: I basically do not enter the role until Director says “OK, start”. I think perhaps because I am a shy person. It’s like the day before, I remember what I need to do tomorrow, then I get up, then I embrace such feeling and go to the site, I still feel embarrassed in such way.
Perhaps it’s about the era. (In our era) there are people who can’t get out of the roles even when they go home, when they act a horrifying role they stayed horrifying, when they portraited a bright role they stayed bright during the filming, but I am not like this at all.
I’m just in the role between being told “OK, start” and “Cut”.

N: I basically, for the things I don’t understand, because people who watch my acting just once would definitely not understand, I don’t want to say them. There were such occasions.
When people watch it once, and the second time, they would watch the work in a different way. I often say so during the promotion. Thinking about this, there are people who can just watch it once, under various circumstances. If a thing cannot be conveyed to people who only watch the work once, this would be meaningless. So I would chew the scriptlines as possible.
Therefore, when there are scriptlines with expert jargons, I say those scriptlines earnestly, to make myself like the character.
OY: To increase the sense of reality.
N: Yes. But, it’s not just “look like the character”, because the story and the development of the story should be conveyed, so indeed when there are scriptlines I don’t understand, I would try best to chew them.

OY: When I watch your work, I watch it thinking that it was very interesting to act with such very stage-like actors and very drama-like actors.
N: We are allowed to act what we want to act. This is the generosity of Director.
OY: What is the difference between acting a film and acting a drama?
N: Basically there is barely difference. In particular, when I appear in film, rather, though there are also works with very common themes, because there are many films with serious themes (which I appear), look, I am in the group ARASHI, ARASHI has various activities, there are people supporting these activities who come to watch my films. I don’t want to propose anything which is wrong in real society. “There is murder with meaning”, “I committed this crime in tears, it couldn’t be helped”, there is no such thing. Crime is crime, murder is murder. These are wrong things. If a work teaches wrong concept to audience, it’s better that I don’t act in it. This is the thing I am the most careful about.

I was just as shocked as everyone when I knew that I acted with Kimura-san. ARASHI members were shocked. They asked “Is it double lead?” and I said “No, it’s (Kimura-san) solo lead, and they said “I see, should be so”.

(When I was young) I went to tens of audition and it didn’t make it, to an extent that I felt like it’s for certain that I wouldn’t get an offer.

(I didn’t want to be an actor) If I wanted to become an actor I wouldn’t have been entered Johnny’s.

I was told to meet Direct Clint Eastwood, even it was a meeting it was a very valuable audition. When I went to the audition, (Director) was not there, there was a camera put over there, I was told “please act facing the camera”. Because (Director) was not there, I was kind of not very motivated and did a short scene, about a rally. Then the staff said “since we can’t understand much, could you act bit longer?”, but I said “Just that would be fine”. And the camera was on roll during this conversation, and Director saw this conversation and said “it’s rare to have such kid who is so not motivated. This suits this character perfectly.” And I got the offer for the character I didn’t go audition for.

(About Kuruma Isu de Boku wa Sora wo Tobu) Probably (Director) saw the atmosphere from me and thought “this kid suits the character, right?” and gave me the offer.

My fashion today? Basically I just wear a T shirt then a jacket, but because I thought it would look so “nil” indeed, I did set up properly and put on my leather sandals. I am all fired up!

My summer clothes wearing in private, to say one thing, are all from Kimura-san. In the programme “PitankoKanKan" filmed the other day, I was told to “wear them anyway!”, today all my private clothes from top to bottom are from Kimura-san. Therefore, roughly speaking, “I am Kimura Takuya!”

Rather than that, it was more impactful to me that I was able to act with Kimura-kun. Were you shocked? You were shocked, weren’t you? I was as shocked as everyone else. I confirmed “Is he the Kimura Takuya I know?” and was replied “Yes”, I thought it was a great thing. Rather than the contents of the story, it was very impactful to me that “I act with Kimura-kun” and “the director is Harada-san”.

(About the scene that Okino vs Matsukura) As for that scene, because I had been shouting loud at the ear of Sakou-san, I apologised every time after cut. For me, during the scene when the emotion is rising, I am the only one who is moving, and if my partner moves I can switch, but since it couldn’t be done like this at all in this scene, I was wondering what I could do. But, once we started the filming for once, we became acting in such way.

17.05.03 Kimura Takuya & Ninomiya Kazunari first-time co-act, Harada Masato as Director “Kensatsugawa no Zainin” broadcast in 2018

It is announced that Kimura Takuya and Ninomiya Kazunari will co-act for the first time in the new movie “Kensatsugawa no Zainin”.

The suspect of a murder case the two people were responsible was Matsukura Shigeo, who was a witness in a murder case of a female junior high school case which the time limit for prosecution expired. Dragging the bereaved family’s chagrin like his own, Saijo, only this time, wants to bring Matsukura to legal justice, and Okino who has doubt on what Saijo is doing, they confront each other under the justice.

“Kensatsugawa no Zainin” will be filmed between July and August, and is scheduled to broadcast across the country in 2018.

In addition, currently, “Blade of the Immortal” which Kimura-san is taking the leading role is on road show across the country. “Last Recipe ~Kirin no Shita no Kioku~” which Ninomiya-san takes the leading role will be broadcast from 3 November.

Harada Masato on Kimura-san and Ninomiya-san: Though not much appearance, I like the performance of Kimura-san in “2046”, and wanted to work with him some time on a film noir. Since “Letters From Iwo Jima” I have been keeping my eye on Ninomiya-kun. Though he didn’t have an image of criminal movie, the young prosecutor Okino seems to be a character written for him. His voice is good. So I have been reading the original novel with their images. Though I haven’t thought it could come true I got their acceptance of the offer readily, and the co-act between the two top stars which Japan is proud of came true. The essence of criminal movie is the voice quality of the leading cast. I keep my mind onto the audio things more than the visual things. I am going to gift them the quality scriptlines in the novel and the polishing like Cohen’s movies. The confrontation between them is also the highlight scene.
