arashitranslationARASHI’s Aiba Masaki (34), after playing the big role as host [of 67th Kouhaku Uta Gassen], expressed with sense of fulfilment and gratitude “I thought it was ‘once in my life-time’ and I worked to my utmost. It was not something that you can do just by saying you want to do it. I had a fortunate day”.
ARASHI has been host for consecutively five years since 2010, this year Aiba-san worked as White Team Host alone, and performed the last finale with “ARASHI x Kouhaku Special Medley”, a title which they have performed for consecutively eight years. Aiba-san once again felt the bonding (kizuna) of the group “It was totally different (from hosting as five people). When I looked around members were not beside me. I sense the importance [of their existence].”
In the middle of “One Love” which was the 3rd song of the “ARASHI x Kouhaku Special Medley”, Aiba-san burst into tears. “Eh? You saw it? When I sang ‘One Love’, I felt that I was relieved of everything”, Aiba-san expressed his feeling. During rehearsal, as a host Aiba-san had a lot of things to confirm, he had to remember new choreograph for the last finale, he had expressed his nervousness “There is Kouhaku version [of choreography]… I stay behind to practice it”; when he made it through the sense of relief seemed to made him in tears.
When asked about members’ reaction towards his hosting work, Aiba-san revealed with smile “They said ‘Thanks for your hard work’ to me, we shook hands without words. Thought we didn’t say much about this, I felt that [they thought that] I’ve done well”.
