ARASHI members were interviewed before the Kouhaku Uta Gassen to be held on year’s end, about their looking back 2016. Below is the dialogue.
－Looking back 2016.
Matsumoto Jun: We five really had a lot of time together. We have done arena tour since nine years ago, we have gone to a lot of other places since long time ago. Yesterday I have completed that Tokyo Dome tour, we are in the 5-Dome tour, we have a lot of time standing on stage together, including the work meeting, we spent a great deal of time being together. The result is recently, we are into sweets… (giggle).
－Today’s sweets is?
Aiba Masaki: The four members of ARASHI brought waffle as treat today.
Matsumoto: When we ARASHI was the host we had interview (with the performing artists). Between the interviews there was few idling time, during that time, we would eat something, thinking about this, when we four had the interview [with Aiba-san], we brought some treat to him. We all ate it.
Aiba: What’s more, we didn’t use fork and plate and just straight took the waffle to eat, being aware of it… the “ladys’ power” is really great!! Staff were happy too, and straight ate them. There are lots of waffle.

Aiba: “Surprise” (驚).
Sakurai Sho: Indeed, facing 31 Dec’s Kouhaku… “Support” (援) of support. We four also want to contribute ourselves to empower Aiba-san and White Team, even may be just to a small extent.
Ninomiya Kazunari: “Happy” (楽). I think this year was happy. There was lots of time we five spent together all along, and we conclude this year with Kouhaku Uta Gassen. Though it is about singing, there are also various scenes about support [other people], that is happy too.
Ohno Satoshi: “Send” (送) of sending messages. This years, we five sent a great deal of mails to each other didn’t we? We sent a lot. We were all in the green room but we sent group mails. If anyone took a photo, he sent the photo to everyone.
－The latest photo is?
Ohno: The latest is, the figures I gifted Aiba-kun as birthday present, everyone took their pictures at green room…
Aiba: I sent the photos to Leader… sorry, there were worthless photos.
Matsumoto: My Kanji is “Miyabi” (雅) of the name of Aiba Masaki. I think it’s marvellous that Aiba-ban works as the host of Kouhaku, lastly, to adorn this marvel… I hope to complete the event with the scene that White Team wins, and Aiba-san holds the victory flag.
Aiba: (Facing Ohno-san) (When I hold the victory flag) please don’t intercept in any way. You would be staying behind me wouldn’t you?
Ohno: This year? I shall stay behind you.
Aiba: I think (Ohno-san is) pretty much… aiming for it. If I take the victory flag, there may be chance that he would come from the side to take it.
Ohno: It depends…
Aiba: Please hold back (giggle).
