Q: Congratulations to topping the Oricon Artist Total Sales Ranking.
M: Thank you very much. It was impressive that when we got the award, it was said that it was the award of “Reiwa 1st Year”. I am very happy to obtain this honourable award in the first year of Reiwa era. I would like to thank our fans because rather than what we did, we obtain this award because our fans bought our works.
N: I am grateful. This is the first award we obtain in Reiwa era. I think this is an award that we obtain together with our fans who support our activities, and I am really grateful to them. What’s more, we are awarded so many trophies! Leader is holding two trophies.
O: It was scary~ I feel that I may drop them down.
N: Right!? I thought that it is really magnificent.
O: They are pretty heavy.
Q: You have training in the Muscle Club!
O: I got good muscle training (giggle).
S: During the week when our CDs are on sale across Japan, the staff of various CD shops are helping us to promote. I am very touched by this. I think we get this award because of the support by many people. Not only our fans but also people who are not our fans join to celebrate our 20th anniversary. When I pass by a large CD shop, there is King and Prince outside …
N: (Follow immediately) No, there is no such thing! I think the staff must have prepared various promotion inside the shop, they must have!
M: Right, inside the shop! What’s important is inside the shop! (Giggle)
S: But there is (poster) of King and Prince outside …
M: Well because they are popular (giggle).
A: (Cut in) I have nothing but gratitude! We get this award because of the effort of various people.
O: In fact, I have no feeling that this is real, (lower his voice) so this is real.
S: Hahahaha!
N: So you receive this award with a tough feeling!?
S: You say so with positive feeling, right!? (Giggle)
M: You are grateful about this, right!? (Giggle)
O: Yup (giggle). As you all said, this is a record created together with the people who have work relationship with us and with the people who bought our CDs. I am really grateful.
Q: Did you feel the excitement when 『5×20 All the BEST!! 1999-2019』 was released?
S: Indeed, I notice that the response was amazing during the pre-sale order stage.
M: Our staff are happy about it.
N: The staff who produce CDs at factories are also happy about this.
M: It is also our pleasure that the staff are happy!
Q: The first No.1 Total Sales Artist during Showa era (1968, Showa 43) was Mori Shinichi-san, the one in Heisei 1 was Matsutoya Yumi-san. The first artist achieving No.1 Album Sales in Showa era (1970, Showa 45) was Fuji Keiko-san, the artist in Heisei 1 was also Matsutoya Yumi-san. ARASHI achieve both in Reiwa 1.
M: Thank you very much!
S: What a coincidence that we welcome our 20th anniversary in the year that the era name is changed to Reiwa, it is a miraculous timing. It would not have been happened even with one year of difference.
N: Had our 20th anniversary been the coming year, even we are awarded, it would have been Reiwa 2.
Q: Do you have any memory about ranking?
S: Few years ago, I ranked quite high on “Ranking of person whom you want to be your father”. So I pass boyfriend and husband and jump directly to father! I remember that I was very puzzled by this ranking at that time (giggle).
A: Because you are mature. I don’t have any memory at all~
S: Do you remember that we went to have ramen at Akasaka after the award ceremony many years ago? (Giggle)
M: Why did we go to that ramen restaurant?
A: Because that restaurant was near the award ceremony and it was a restaurant we like!
M: Speaking of music ranking, after we debut with『A・RA・SHI』, there was period of time that we did not get the No.1 sales. Having passed that period of time, we are really happy that we can receive many awards like now.
Q: Do you have memory that Johnny-san said “Congratulations” to you?
M: He didn’t say “Congratulations” to us. I feel that Johnny-san was a person who regarded taking No.1 for certain. Rather, he said “Why did YOU not get No.1?”.
S: He said “I can’t believe that!”.
M: And we were like “We have no idea!”, “We want to ask why!” (giggle). Because he was the boss, we just stayed silent when he scolded us.
S: Hahahaha!
O: I also remember that. Were we together at that time? He kept asking us “Why?” (giggle). We just achieved No.3 on ranking, right?
M: Right. “Typhoon Generation”. Johnny-san said “YOU are so incompetent, why didn’t you get No.1!”.
O: Even he scolded us like this, we had no idea what to do to get No.1.
A: Yup. Because we were already working our best at that time (giggle).
Q: Passing that period of time, you are updating your own record now. For the new 2019 CD and digital music total album ranking, ARASHI also championed the ranking.
M: Though it’s total album ranking, we only released『5×20 All the BEST!! 1999-2019』, right?
Q: Yes, you topped the ranking even by the sales of CD.
M: We are more than grateful about this. Including digital music, when we enter our 21st year, we start various new works. Therefore we also look forward to the next year. We have various choices of works to make our fans feel closer to us. In terms of music, we shall continue to work on various new things, so I hope that we can do it with the sense of speed.
N: We hope that fans would feel closer to us by dance challenge like ARASHI challenge, or that we go to four Asian cities in JET STORM to meet our fans directly there.
Q: At last, please tell us the aspiration of ARASHI in 2020.
M: I have a concrete feeling that we could work on various projects like the collaboration with Yonezu Kenshi-kun. At the same time, I hope to deliver our music to various people.
A: In 2020, I hope to challenge various things and dash to my best so that everyone could enjoy our works. We have been working with this aspiration since the announcement of group activity hiatus. Therefore even we go to a new year, I barely feel any change, and I feel that I shall continue dashing to my full speed. I hope that we and our fans shall enjoy our music as well as various events together, so that 2020 would be a year that we could convey our gratitude to everyone.
S: Right. Let’s also try our best in Reiwa 2!

We can receive this award thanks to the people who bought our CDs and the people who have been supporting us, without the support of these people, we would not have been able to work for 20 years. I am really grateful to them.

No matter our Best Album or our Best Clips, we would not achieve such award record just by releasing our works. It is the award for the fans who bought our works and who kept our works in their hands. I would like to express my gratitude to our fans.
Ninomiya Kazunari
We receive this award thanks to the fans who have been supporting us since long time ago, as well as people who think “Let’s have a look of their work” because we are welcoming our 20th anniversary and bought our works. I think that this is an award we receive together with these people. I am really grateful to them.

The release of the Best Album this time is also a good thing to us because we were able to summarise ARASHI songs. Though I still don’t have realistic feeling about receiving the award, we receive it only because of the support of our fans. This is an award of our fans.

I am grateful that we receive this honourable award in this timing of 20th anniversary. As I have commented before, we are not singer-songwriter group, we receive this award because many lyrists and composers write us amazing songs. I am grateful that we work as a TEAM.
