“I wanted to be producer”

- When Nino studied the operation scene, you shifted your attention from the hands of the surgeon to the people around.
N: What would the surgeon do in next step? What does he want? I have been watching him all along in a sense that he is doing the surgery together with the team which supports him.

- While you are a member of idol group ARASHI, you are now also recognised as a talented actor.
N: When it is so I feel that “indeed I am still not mature (successful) enough as an idol. In order not to be commented so, I shall work harder as idol.

N: (Before debut) I wanted to be producer. While I was working as a “performer” I wanted to work on the production. When there are many people involved in a project, it is difficult to make decision according to my own will. When we had the first concert the next spring from debut, I felt that “ahh, I can no longer quit”.

N: Because I almost stay at home all the time apart from working, there is nothing special happening around me. Therefore, my role in my works is to expand the things and conversation I listen from my co-acts. I have been living in such way.

- ARASHI’s kizuna.
N: I have not been having any argument with ARASHI member, not even once. Because there are people who would force me to go out, I have to follow them. The prime driving force of my individual works is always “ARASHI”. There is no reason of my individual works if they cannot be returned to the group.

- Are you a genius?
N: Because I have no idea what “genius” means, I think I would not be tied with this description. I also work hard on my work, I also have worries, though others may not see this. Because I am just a human being.

“‘Iwo Jima’ is the greatest luxury”

N: This is the most luxurious work in my history. And this would remain the most luxurious forever. When I was Jr., I wanted to spend 2 - 3 years overseas to study acting, and gain some experiences and work as production. I set my sight on overseas that time. (This dream to go overseas which was far away because of his debut came back in another form)

- There was a filming during “Iwo Jima” that the director changed the filming plan to film him because there was a beautiful sunset and the director wanted to film the scene in such sunset.
N: Normally, the director would think about that if there was no simulated experience of that scene, the actors would not get into the feelings for acting. But for that scene, I had a feeling that it was not filmed by the power of the actors but the power of nature. Though the director said a lot various things to me, I had no idea at all what he said. (Bitter smile)

- About Director Ninagawa stopping a Shakespeare play he directed in the middle and asked the actors to start again.
N: I was really glad that I was not one of the performers. Director Ninagawa thinks that good thing is good thing, bad thing is bad thing. He does not allow any performance not matching his feelings to be shown to audience. His pride is on a different level.

“Just a person disliked by others”

N: Because this character is the guideline of others and he stands out, he is disliked by others by all means. Though he may be a good partner to work with, people definitely don’t want to have any connection with him in private.

- You don’t have feeling of doctor.
N: I would look like a doctor if I put on the surgeon cloth and face the patient characters. I put a lot of weight on the character relationship chart. I read both the relationship flowchart and the one with our small pictures.

N: I act in a way that “though I am the lead actor, the main character is Takeuchi-kun”. The drama is best to be viewed from the perspective of Sera. Therefore, I act the Tokai from the viewpoint of Sera. Tokai is a character who is a bit “good” but that’s it. He stays alive as “a person who is very disliked by others” (as an existence to attract to the story).

- About the operation scene.
N: Tokai is bluntly sloppy under normal circumstance, but he is faithful towards operation. He is “saint” only in such circumstances.

N: Right atrium or spleen, I cannot speak them out just by imagining what they really are.

N: The director of every episode is different, I don’t know about the ending of the story. Ahh, so this is the TV drama, I feel nostalgic.

N: I am helped by experienced staff and co-acts. From now on I hope that we would build the character Tokai together.
