“Frequent occurrence” of terrorist attacks in Europe

These days Europe is
experiencing the horror of new terrorist attacks.

This was a public viewing at Italy・Turin,
the final match of soccer European・Championship League
supporters came to watch it.
In fact after that…

People who escaped all altogether.
(Paying attention to the sound, please watch the video once again.
An explosion sound was heard.)
People misunderstood the big firecracker sound as bomb
The site was in a panic state.

Thousands of supporters were in the site.

During panic people fell,
and were crushed under other people who tried to escape
more than 1,400 people were injured, while eight of them suffered from serious injury.

While such events happen,
these days, in Europe horror of terrorist attacks is spreading.

UK, in just three months,
experienced three indiscriminate terrorist attacks.
All incidents
were pointed out to be related to extremist “ISIS”.
In retrospect, in January 2015
French press “Charlie Hebdo”
was attacked by gunmen.
In November that year, in the central part of Paris
terrorist attacks occurred one after another in concert halls and soccer fields.
From 2016 to 2017
in France, Germany, Sweden
incidents such as trucks running out of control and attacked people
terrorist attacks occurred frequently.

UK Prime Minister May, during the statement in regard to the incident this time, said
“‘As terrorism breeds terrorism’
we are experiencing a new trend in the threat we face”.

The keyword is “copycat perpetrator”.
This time, the terrorist attack occurred in London was
very similar with another terrorist attack also occurred in London in March 2017.
In both incidents, after the automobile thrust into pedestrians
terrorists got out of the vehicles, and attacked people with knives.
Furthermore, the way of attacking people with vehicles
started from the terrorist attack in Nice of France in 2016 during which the truck got out of control,
which was specially remarkable in Germany and Sweden recently.

According to experts, as for terrorist attacks vehicles and knives are
easier to obtain compared with guns and bombs.
Knives are sold in shops,
Rental cars are available to anybody.
Besides, because using vehicles and knives needs not use a lot of money,
it is difficult for the police to detect its occurrence during its preparation stage.
That is to say, it is a method which is very difficult to be prevented.

In addition, the series of terrorist attacks
target “soft target”, this point is also
very similar.

“Soft target” means
not police of military facilities etc.,
but places where many unspecified people gather such as tourist spots or theatres.
Security is difficult to be implemented
because ordinary people are targeted
fear towards terrorism is easy to be planted.

All along, UK is called “nation advanced in counter-terrorism”,
equipped with laws on interception on communication and monitoring of Internet
information of terrorism is collected.
With such measures, in the past four years,
13 terrorist attacks were prevented.

Even so, the incident this time was not prevented,
because there is frequent occurrence of “lone wolf type” terrorist attacks.
In Japanese it means “one lone wolf”.
Not directly related to terrorists,
they are impressed by the extremist ideology on net etc.,
crimes are committed suddenly in individual or small group.
According to the experts, these so-called “unexpected terrorists”,
do not commit professional crimes.
The reality is that it is not easy to stop such terrorist attacks.
