Thing Aiba Masaki thinks when watching Sakurai Sho in “NEWS ZERO”
Aiba Masaki who acts the mysterious Kizoku in the Getsuku drama “Kizoku Tantei” (Fujitv) currently broadcast. A unique character who does not do deduction himself and gives the nazotoki to his servants. Aiba-san talks in this interview about his thoughts towards the character as well as his recent life.
── You take the leading role in the Getsuku drama in this timing of celebrating its 30th anniversary.
I knew that it is the 30th anniversary work after I accepted the offer, it is my great honour to act the second time in Getsuku after 2015 (“Yokoso, Wagaya e”). Since I was a child, I have such a mindset that “Monday 21:00 is drama”. But, thinking about it too much will bring pressure, so first of all I think about working to my utmost on what I am able to do. Since the co-acts are really splendid, I would like to learn various things from them.
── Aiba-san gives us an unpretentiously cheerful image, this time the character of Kizoku seems a new aspect.
This is a character which I have never acted thus far, he’s unique and extraordinary, and seems not a worldly person. My scriptlines are words that you normally don’t speak. Since I have never met Kizoku before I am groping for my acting, while I am working on it with fun expanding the image.
── “Getsuku” gives us an image of love story, is there love story in this drama?
I have no idea. In the previous “Getsuku” I acted a character who was chased by stalker, this time I act a mysterious Kizoku, both don’t have love story…… (giggle). But, this time every week, I take care of various ladies, in that sense I think perhaps this is love element. This is a character who is very genuine towards ladies.
── Would you try in private how to treat ladies?
To practice it……, no, there seems no such opportunity (giggle). But I am also “lady first”. That is not pretentious, I keep it in my mind.
── Some actors are influenced in private by their characters, what about Aiba-san?
If I act a character close to myself then this also happens, while this time I am not affected by the character. Because the character is far from reality. We don’t really have servants, I have to sweat myself to move and work.
── Were you a Kizoku, what would you want to do?
I would do nothing (giggle). I wouldn’t do tantei either, I would just relax at home. Starting my drinking elegantly from daytime.
── While ARASHI sings the theme song of the drama (“I’ll be there”), do you receive comments and advice from members?
Members said “So your character is tantei but don’t solve mysteries? Then what do you do?” and then I said “The character does various things!” (giggle).
── Within the group, do members know about each other’s activities? I heard that Aiba-san puts “ARASHI” as keyword in recorder, and watches the programmes which members act.
When I have time I watch the programmes, and I go to cinema house to watch movies which members act. I don’t watch them with particular consciousness, I purely enjoy them as entertainment. We have been together for more than 17 years, since each one’s character and situation is different, I don’t compare myself with them. But just, late night on Mondays, when I watch “NEWS ZERO” (NTV, Sakurai Sho-san is one of the Casters) drinking alcohol, I have bit feeling of guilt. Because it’s live broadcast. At that time, I watch it with a feeling like “I have finished my work first. Thanks for your good work!”
── While I think you must be having busy days, do you take time to relax or have fun?
I enjoy having delicious dining. Really I like meat. Beef, chicken, pork. If for beef I want to have thick rare steak. I can really eat a lot. And then I like going to sauna, and I like sports no matter playing sports or watching sports contests.
── If you have rest time what would you like to do?
If it is a short break, rather than being active, I would go to gym or have massage, perhaps to take care of my body. Because to let body to take rest is also important. If it is a long break, I want to go elsewhere. Overseas……, beach resort would be great. Hawaii is bit too far, first of all perhaps Guam or Saipan would be nice.
── At last, again please tell us the highpoints of the drama.
It is a drama made very delicately, with solid content of deduction, I hope you would enjoy it most. But since I don’t do deduction I am not much related to it, because I am Kizoku (giggle). As a spice to the story, it would be great if you would enjoy the character Kizoku.
── Please also tell us one highpoint of Aiba-san’s Kizoku appearance.
The costume is great. Though I was surprised at first, recently I am accustomed to it.
── After the drama filming, would you also consider buying the costumes?
Eh? Dress them in private!? Well, I’ll think about it (giggle).
